Big screen returns to Sherwood to launch Festival

What do Harry Potter and Robin Hood have in common? They’ll both be appearing on the big screen at Sherwood Forest this summer to launch the 2023 Robin Hood Festival. In fact, they will feature in a bill of no fewer than six films being shown over three days from 27th-29th July at RSPB Sherwood Forest in Edwinstowe. Outdoor movie specialists Adventure Cinema have put together a selection of family favourites that includes Disney’s classic animated Robin Hood, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. There is also the 2010 Hollywood version of the legend starring Russell Crowe, 1980s classic Dirty Dancing and Harry Potter’s screen debut too. Jess Dumoulin, Visitor Experience Manager at the Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve, said: “We ran our first outdoor cinema event here at the start of the 2022 festival and it went down really well with the audiences. “This year, we’re delighted to be working with Adventure Cinema and making it even bigger and better by offering three days of films with something for all the family.” The full weekend listing is: Thursday 27th July Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, 7pm Friday 28th July Moana, 1.30pm Dirty Dancing, 8pm Saturday 29th July The Gruffalo and The Stickman (double bill), 11.30am Disney’s Robin Hood, 3.15pm Robin Hood, 7.30pm Jess added: “Bring a blanket or chair, a picnic or choose something from the menu in our Visitor Centre café. Then sit back and enjoy the show. We had a blazing hot summer’s day for last year’s screenings and hopefully we’ll have a lovely sunny cinema weekend this time too.” Tickets are priced at £8.50 and £12.50 for The Gruffalo and The Stickman only, which is also free for children aged under a year old. For other films, prices start at £9.50 for under 12s (Harry Potter, Moana, Disney's Robin Hood only), £12.50 for early bird tickets, £15.50 for a standard ticket and £21.50 for a premium ticket which includes a luxury deckchair in prime position.
